PVC steel sheet membrane is a composite surface material that combines the structural strength of steel with the decorative and protective qualities of a PVC layer. How It Is Made: Two Production Methods

There are two distinct methods for producing PVC steel sheet membrane, each resulting in a product with slightly different characteristics.

Coated PVC Steel Sheet

The first method involves applying a paste PVC coating directly onto the steel substrate. In this process, liquid PVC compound is spread evenly across the steel surface and cured to form a continuous, integrated layer. Because the PVC layer is thermoplastic, it can be subjected to further surface processing after coating — including embossing, which adds tactile texture and visual depth to the finished panel.

Film PVC Steel Sheet

The second method involves bonding a pre-formed PVC film — which may already carry printed patterns or embossed textures — directly onto the steel plate. This approach allows for a wider variety of surface effects to be achieved with greater precision and consistency, as the film can be manufactured and quality-controlled independently before lamination.

In both cases, the thermoplastic nature of the PVC layer means the finished sheet retains a degree of flexibility, allowing it to undergo secondary processing such as bending and forming without cracking or delamination. Its corrosion resistance is also comparatively strong, making it suitable for use in environments where the substrate would otherwise be vulnerable to oxidation or chemical exposure.

PVC steel sheet membrane is available in both gloss and matt finishes, and the surface PVC composite film can be produced in a wide range of patterns and colors to suit different design requirements. Currently popular surface effects include:

  • Wood grain — replicating the natural appearance of timber for furniture and interior panel applications
  • Stainless steel brushed (wire drawing) — a metallic linear texture commonly used in home appliance housings and kitchen equipment
